Credit Card Insurance

October 31st, 2010

Credit card insurance is really a specialized form of one or more of the following types of insurance: disability insurance, life insurance or health insurance. What credit card insurance promises is to pay the balance or the minimum payment (one or the other) on your credit card in the event that you cannot. The credit card insurer then specifies the conditions under which it will pay. These conditions will likely be in the case of illness, death, loss of job or disability.

Credit card insurance is generally a consumer rip-off. For the dollar amount of the benefit versus the dollar amount of the premium it is one of the most expensive insurances you can buy, dollar for dollar. On the other hand credit card insurance is often offered by your credit card company and is usually pretty easy to get if you have a reasonable credit history.

Best Answer

Depends what kind of coverage you have. If your not sure you should call your agent first thing in the morning and make sure you have full coverage (both liability and personal damage coverage) in the case your car was stolen your personal damage part of insurance would kick in and yes they would refund you the market price for your car.

Xinjiang aims to attract 50 million tourists by 2015

October 26th, 2010

The Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region plans to receive 50 million tourists by 2015, according to Yinamu Nasirding, head of the Xinjiang government’s tourism department.

“We have welcomed more than 25 million tourists from outside Xinjiang so far this year, and we plan to double this number by 2015,” Nasirding said on Monday.

Xinjiang has a population of 2.4 million, and Nasirding said that it “boasts all kinds of landscape, including snowy mountains, deserts, lakes, and grassland.”

Affected by last year’s riots in Urumqi, the capital of Xinjiang, the number of visitors to the region dropped sharply in 2009.

But, following a return to order, domestic and international tourists have started to return.

During the National Day holiday this year, which lasts from October 1 to 7, around 2.2 million visitors traveled to Xinjiang.

“All of our hotels and air routes connecting each city inside Xinjiang were full,” Nasirding said.

“The biggest problem concerning tourism in Xinjiang is that Xinjiang is too big,” he added. “For example, the distance from Urumqi to Kashgar is 1,500 kilometers. From Beijing to Shanghai, it’s only 1,000 kilometers.”

Each tourist spends at least 10,000 yuan (around $1,500) during a visit to Xinjiang and, for the same sum, a resident of China’s coastal areas could travel to Thailand or South Korea.

In addition, those who visit Yili, in northern Xinjiang, from Kashgar, must first return to Urumqi in order to fly to Yili. “We are short of air routes to support tourism,” Nasirding said.

What liability insurance provides

October 8th, 2010

Liability insurers have two major duties: the duty to defend and the duty to indemnify.

The duty to defend is triggered when the insured is sued and in turn “tenders” defense of the claim to its liability insurer. Usually this is done by sending a copy of the complaint along with a cover letter referencing the relevant insurance policy or policies and demanding an immediate defense.

The insurer may decide that there is no coverage under the policy and deny the claim (meaning that its insured must defend itself), defend the case unconditionally, or defend only under a reservation of rights. The last means that the insurer reserves the right to withdraw from defending in the event that it turns out the claim is not covered and to recover from the insured any funds expended to date. If the insurer chooses to defend, it may either defend the claim with its own in-house lawyers (where allowed), or give the claim to an outside law firm on a “panel” of preferred firms which have negotiated a standard fee schedule with the insurer in exchange for a regular flow of work. The decision to defend under a reservation of rights must be undertaken with extreme caution in jurisdictions where the insured has a right to Cumis counsel.

The duty to indemnify means the duty to pay “all sums” for which the insured is held liable, up to a set policy limit.

In some jurisdictions, there is a third duty, the duty to settle a reasonably clear claim against the insured so that the insured is not hit with a judgment in excess of policy limits. An insurer who breaches any of these three duties may be held liable for the tort of insurance bad faith in addition to breach of contract.
