Level 3 Selected as a national provider of Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association

Level 3 Communications, Inc.announced that the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association (BCBSA) has selected Level 3 to be a national provider for telecommunications services. Under the terms of the multi-year agreement, Level 3 will continue to extend its telecommunications services – including voice, video and data offerings – to all 39 Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies across the nation.
Level 3’s extensive network reach combined with its broad portfolio helps address telecommunication needs for individual Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies. Level 3 will continue to provide a reliable and scalable network to further enhance efficiencies at the Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies.
The 39 Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies collectively provide healthcare coverage for more than 102 million Americans, so the need for seamless transmission of electronic health records and claims over the network is critical. With approximately 38,000 long-haul route miles and 25,000 metro route miles in North America, Level 3’s fiber-optic network will continue to provide Blue Cross and Blue Shield members with maximum coverage, performance and flexibility.
